3M KIDS HEARING PROTECTION

HEAR US OUT

You might be surprised to learn that prolonged exposure to any noise over as little as 85 decibels (dB) can put children at risk for permanent hearing loss. In fact, consumer research has shown that you wouldn’t be the only one – many parents were alarmed when made aware of this astonishing auditory actuality. Even more were amazed to learn just exactly what 85 dB might sound like in terms of their average everyday activities (somewhere between running a vacuum cleaner and a mowing the lawn, in case you were curious). Due to this fact, 3M tasked BAKER with the not only educating consumers on the advantages of assuaging tumultuous tones from egregiously irritating immature eardrums, but to do so in a way that playfully positioned protective sound safety as fashionably fun at the same time. The challenge was music to our ears.

SOUND ADVICE

While limiting the level of loudness that a child experiences in any given scenario is the ultimate goal, helping parents understand what types of noises might pose a prospective threat, and when proper protection should be worn was a key informational inclusion in every piece of potential packaging. Alongside visuals that instantly illustrated the insulating properties of the devices themselves, educational information graphics were utilized in a reliably relatable way to explain exactly how much protection could be expected, and what types of outings would warrant wearing such hazard hampering headwear.

MAKING AUDIO VISUAL

In the end, the selected solution was really more than just being about what the headphones keep out, but rather, about celebrating what exactly it is that they let you take in – all of the rich, colorful experiences that life has to offer – regardless of how loud they might happen to be. From booming fireworks to raucous rock shows, kids can now actively participate while their parents proactively protect.
